Carol Vernallis

Carol Vernallis studies editing and camera work closely in music videos. She found that editing comes very frequently, many edits stand out as disjuncture. The editing seems to have a rhythmic basis closley connected to teh song. The usual rues of 'continuity' are broken in order to draw attention to what is on screen. Edits may be really obvious to draw attention to themselves, such as wipes and special effects added. Jump cuts are often used as well as a master shot (base track) is frequently used to give the video a structure; the camera may also move in time with them music.
