Florece and The Machine - Howl
I chose this video as my favourite from the Hall of Fame not because it received full marks but simply because of the structure of the video. As it is a amplification structured video it emphasises the meaning of the lyrics more and was all in all a brilliant performance. It was engaging from start to finish and I never took my eyes off it once. Being an Indie genre, which isn't to everyone's taste, the video was able to change that view of many of my fellow students because the video was purposely made to appeal to a young audience.
The mise-en-scene and material used for the video was very well suited and in turn suited the song and now every time I think of the song that video will come to mind suggests a very successful video. By using close ups and mid shots of the artists' sensual and desirable poses to some extent followed Laura Mulvey's 'Male Gaze' theory, however she was able to use that to her advantage to come across as a very dominant, intimidating, young woman. The close ups did emphasise more on her facial expressions, open mouth and sensual body language but all shots were held very well and steady.
Over all an amazing performance and video!!
